Here’s a piece from her travels. After taking a trip to Cameroon, I saw first hand the horrors of AIDS in that country alone. As I played with the kids and marveled at their curiosity and excitement as they tightly grabbed my hand – a strange visitor touring their home – it was clear that many of these children had been seriously affected by HIV.
Country-wide in Cameroon there are 330,000 children who have lost at least one parent to HIV/AIDS, classifying them as AIDS orphans. Globally this statistic is more than sixteen and a half million children. That’s more than twice as many people as in the entire state of Virginia. And 90% of these kids are in sub-Saharan Africa.
