Counseling, Testing and Referral Services (CTR)
HIV counseling and testing provides information about HIV transmission and prevention, the meaning of test results, and HIV prevention counseling to reduce individual’s risk for transmitting or acquiring HIV. The referral process assesses and prioritizes the individual’s needs for prevention, care and/or supportive services.
The test used is an Orasure OraQuick Advance Rapid HIV-1/2 Antibody Test with results available in 20 minutes. The test is conducted using either a non invasive swabbing of the gums, or a simple finger stick to get a blood sample. HIV testing takes place at the ARE offices by appointment.
