Elton John Holds Gala Event for HIV/AIDS
Elton John held a star-studded gala last night to honor prominent supporters of his AIDS Foundation and he spoke about the latest efforts to prevent the disease and end a continuing stigma associated with HIV/AIDS.
Serving as MC for the gala — called ‘An Enduring Vision’ — was CNN anchor and talk show host Anderson Cooper. Among those attending were John’s partner David Furnish, legendary singer Smokey Robinson, Alec Baldwin and New York Mayor Andrew Cuomo to name a few.
The Elton John AIDS Foundation was established nearly two decades ago, John’s global foundation helps raise money for innovative HIV/AIDS prevention programs, as well as efforts to end stigma and discrimination and increase services for people living with the disease. Sir Elton John said that even after all these many years there is still stigma attached to the disease and people are afraid to get tested among others.
We here at ARE still see that exact anwser he gave. The stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS is still present and ongoing. Its a daily battle we face when reaching out to the community we serve. To educate, inform, assist and prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.
