Housing
Housing Market Effects Everyone

The housing market continues to slide, homes are being lost not only in the urban cities but even in the rural areas. The increase in the suburbs was 53%, compared with 26% in cities. The recession accelerated the pace: 2/3 of the new suburban poor were added from 2007 to 2010.
Communities are now confronting a new set of issues, namely how to help poor residents without the array of social programs that cities have, and how to get those residents to services without public transportation. Many suburbs are facing these challenges with the tightest budgets in years. The strain on each town’s budget that assists low income individuals is seen through these cut backs even locally. As jobs are being lost, insurances reduced and homes lost, people fall into desperate measures thus their risks are increased to acquire HIV/AIDS.
We here at ARE see the effect of this recession has with our consumers. ARE does its best to assist our consumers with programs like: Ryan White A & B, HOPWA Housing and Free HIV Testing through Virginia Dept of Health.
With no quick fix in sight on the horizon, the US will continue to struggle and HIV/AIDS will increase with the cutbacks. ARE will also continue to do its best with what limited grants we have available.
